Chip and Carol - CD Title

My first champion was in the early 70s - a schipperke named Duke.  Duke was shown and finished by his breeder, Tony Gruda.  At that time I was heavily into horses (even Carol had a pony at 3) and Duke was my pet.

After many years, I gradually got out of horses and acquired a Bernese Mountain Dog.  Nugget was my husband's dog and he showed him in both obedience and breed.  After a valiant fight by both Nugget and my husband, Nugget died of cancer at the young age of 5.

Meanwhile, my daughter, 10 years old, was bored at the dog shows we were dragging her to.  She wanted a Golden Retreiver and "Chip" (Pekay's Commodore Chip, CD) entered our lives.  Chip never got his AKC championship but he was shown in everything:  breed, field work, obedience, and juniors.  My daughter was the only one to ever handle him.  Shortly thereafter I noticed I didnt have my "own" dog and Golden Retriever "Jessie" entered my life.

Through the years we had another Berner and several other goldens.  We also had a Curly-Coat Retriever, Ozzie (CH Mariah's Evening Shade), who died at the age of 16.  We are now retired from "big" dogs and are focusing on the tibbies, even though I do have one Shiba Inu, a breed I have always loved.

SLICK
CH GANGWAY'S SMOOTH OPERATOR

Slick was a wonderful dog and exemplified a Golden Retriever.  He was equally at home retrieving in the field or bringing back a tennis ball at home.  He was a group winning Golden and had a great show career, finishing his championship by going BOB over 11 specials.  He was also WD at the Atlanta Dog Club Regional specialty at the age of 6 months for his first major.  He was Carol's dog and was mostly shown by her.

Rocky was a wonderful Golden that excelled in showing.  He trained several Junior Handlers over the years.  Rocky did everything he was ever asked to do in spite of almost dying as a very young puppy from "strangles."  Although the strangles left scars on his face, it never seemed to stopped him from winning.

OZZY
CH Mariah's Evening Shade

Ozzy was an outstanding Curly Coat Retriever who was happiest hunting all day.  He was a group placing Curly Coat.  He lived with us for over 16 years.  We loved him and still look for his greeting everytime we come home.

MAGIC

Magic was bred by Merrimac Kennels and we acquired him when we went with his breeder to rescue him from an unsuitable home.
